In order to obtain the correct clearance, the length of the clutch operating rod should be adjusted so that 1/2%u201d %u2013 3/4%u201d free movement can be felt at the clutch pedal pad. This rod is provided with a hexagon turn-buckle, which, if rotated in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front of the car, will decrease the clearance. Rotation in the reverse direction will of course produce the opposite effect. It is necessary to release a lock-nut before the turn-buckle can be rotated and this should be securely tightened after the adjustment has been made. This adjustment is not a routine operation, and should only be necessary when the clutch pedal free movement has been lost due to clutch lining wear, or the full travel of the pedal does not free the clutch due to excessive wear on the release bearing face. It may be added at this point that it is extremely bad practice to drive with the left foot resting on the clutch pedal, as the weight of the foot takes up the clearance and may cause the graphite release bearing to wear unduly.Adjusting the clutch release bearing clearance.Clutch operating shaft grease nipple.
