A spring-loaded oil pressure relief valve allows oil from the main gallery to pass directly back into the sump when the oil pressure rises above the recommended figure. When starting from cold a higher oil pressure will probably be registered but this should settle down as the oil attains its working temperature. A sudden fall in pressure should be investigated immediately to avoid serious damage to the engine.OOiil LLevvelA dipstick is provided to indicate the level of the oil in the sump, and is marked with high and low level marks. The oil level should be maintained near the high mark and should on no account be allowed to fall below the low level. Before checking the oil level allow sufficient time for the oil to drain back into the sump, and be sure that the car is standing on a level surface when using the dipstick, otherwise a false reading will be obtained.OOiil Chaangi ginggAfter the first 500 miles (800 km.) the oil should be drained off and replaced by 11/2 gallons (6.8 litres) of the recommended oil through the oil filler in the rocker cover and thereafter changed every 2,000 miles (3,200 km.) If possible this operation should be carried out when the engine is hot as the oil will then flow more freely.OOiil FiiltterAs the pump draws oil from the relatively clean top surface of the oil in the sump the filter need only be cleaned every 10,000 miles (16,000 km.), if the oil is changed regularly. When the sump has been removed the filter retaining split pin may be withdrawn from the
