These marks can be seen when the small cover plate is removed from the toe board.Normally, it is unnecessary to re-time the distributor, but if it should for any reason become necessary the following procedure should be observed:Rotate the engine with the starting handle until both valves in No. 1 cylinder are closed and the flywheel is 5%u00b0 before top dead centre; this is the firing point for No. 1 cylinder.Insert the distributor gear in such a position that when the distributor is coupled up the contacts will just be separating and the rotor arm pointing to the distributor cap segment which is connected to No. 1 sparking plug. The timing can be varied slightly without removing the distributor from the engine, by slackening off the distributor clamping bolt and rotating the whole distributor in the required direction to advance or retard the ignition as necessary. The final setting should, of course, be made on the road to obtain the best performance.HHigigh Tensiion CabablesThe high tension cables are secured in the distributor cap by means of pointed fixing screws which pierce the insulation and make contact with the cable core. The screws can be removed from inside the cap, the screw securing the centre cable becoming accessible when the carbon brush is removed. It is advisable to renew the cables when they show signs of perishing and cracking. Rubber covered 7 mm. ignition cable should be used, the ends being cut off flush to the required length and then pushed well home into their respective terminals before securing with the fixing screws.SSpaparki kingg PlugugsThe correct spark gap is 0.025%u201d and it is recommended that this should be checked and the sparking plugs cleaned every 5,000 miles (8,000 km.). To adjust the gap the side electrode should be bent so that the feeler gauge provided is an easy fit between the points. The type of sparking plug recommended for use in this engine is the Champion L10.EEngi gine Iggniti ition Mai ainttenaancceAFTER THE FIRST 500 MILES (800 K.M.). %u2013 Check the contact breaker gap.EVERY 2,000 MILES (3,200 K.M.). %u2013 Lubricate the distributor.EVERY 5,000 MILES (8,000 K.M.). %u2013 Inspect the distributor contacts.%u2013 Clean the sparking plugs and reset the spark gap. CARBURATION AND FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEMFuuel TaankkThe fuel tank located at the rear of the chassis has a total capacity of 141/4 gallons (65 litres), the petrol level gauge on the fascia board indicating the actual quantity of petrol in the tank. One gallon (4.5 litres) is held in reserve and can be brought into use by pulling out the switch marked %u2018R%u2019 on the fascia board, which operates an electrical change-over switch in the fuel tank. Normally this switch should be kept in the main position, and when the reserve has been called upon it should be remembered to return it to the main position after replenishment.Fuel PumpFuel is delivered to the carburettor by a mechanical fuel pump driven from the camshaft.
