Page 40.Alvis Three Litre Shop Manual - T.A. 21 and T.C. 21are self-adjusting for wear and should be lubricated as recommended through the grease nipples provided on each joint.Kiingg PiinsEach stub axle and king pin is attached to the outer ends of the suspension links by two suspension pins and two trunnions. The king pins rotate in special thin wall bearings pressed into the trunnions, the upward thrust being taken by a taper roller bearing at the base of each pin. A flat is machined on each king pin to enable grease from the king pin bearings to pass down the pin and lubricate the thrust bearing.The suspension pins which are secured in the outer ends of the suspension links by tapered cotter pins are of the threaded type, working in the screwed sleeves of the king pin trunnions, giving exceptionally large bearing surfaces in the interests of the longevity of the bearings and the accurate positioning of the king pins.The suspension pins and king pin trunnions are fitted with grease nipples to be used at the recommended intervals. Moulded rubber seals are provided on each suspension pin to retain any excess grease and prevent the ingress of abrasive particles thrown up from the road.
