Adjusting front brake.The %u2018Micram%u2019 adjuster.give a clicking movement when the cam is rotated, ensuring that the correct shoe clearance can be easily obtained.It will be necessary to adjust the brakes when the linings have worn to such an extent that the brake pedal travels to within 1%u201d of the toe board before a solid resistance is felt, but it is advisable to check the adjustment every 2,000 miles (3,200 km.) before this point is reached to ensure that the brakes are always up to the required standard.To adjust the front brakes proceed as follows:%u2014I. Apply the hand brake and jack up one wheel until it is free to revolve (see %u2018Wheels and Hubs%u2019).II. Remove the wheel and rotate the brake drum until the holes in the drum are opposite the brake shoe adjusters.III. Insert a screw-driver through one of the holes in the brake drum into the adjuster slot; turn the adjuster in a clockwise direction until the shoe is in contact with the drum, and then turn the adjuster back one notch; this should provide the correct shoe clearance. If a closer adjustment is required, spin the drum, apply the brakes hard, and readjust.IV. Repeat these operations for the second adjuster.V. Replace the wheel and adjust the other wheel cylinders in a similar manner.To adjust the rear brakes proceed as for the front brakes, after placing chocks in front and behind one of the front wheels and releasing the hand brake. There is only one wheel adjuster to adjust for each rear wheel, and it may be necessary to back off the adjustment by two notches to provide adequate clearance for the two shoes.HHaand BrakakeThe hand brake operates on the rear wheels through a system of cables and rods incorporating a compensator mounted on the rear axle casing. It is completely independent of the hydraulic system, but is automatically adjusted when the foot brake is adjusted.
